A Renovation to an Existing Residence

Virginia-Highlands Tudor

The Kentucky Residence project was an investment property renovation and major addition to a home in the Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta, designed in the Tudor style.

The existing home had been built a good distance over the front yard setback, so most of the original façade remained intact.  Built in the Tudor style, the design incorporates the big wood brackets and 1x wood detailing associated with that style.  The second floor outside walls are cantilevered about 6” over the main floor walls to create a detail where the siding and trim on the upper level sticks out just past the brick, which is an often seen detail of the style.  The existing brick had an odd, inconsistent, diagonal pattern to it, so the decision was made early to paint the brick and to give the home a softer cream tone.

The trim details and light fixture selections are both contemporary and higher end to appeal to a typical buyer looking for a home in the Virginia Highlands district of Atlanta.
