The Pineview residence was a new construction project in the City of Smyrna, designed in the Contemporary Modern Prairie Style.
The design was a more contemporary, modern interpretation of the Prairie Style. The Prairie style of Architecture was developed in the early 1900’s and was popularized by Frank Lloyd Wright. The style is focused on a more horizontal, linear approach and incorporates details such as flat or low sloped roofs, rows of windows, and a roof with large overhangs. The long, horizontal design of the prairie style is meant to imitate the long, low landscape of the prairies of the Midwest.
Though masonry and stucco are most often associated with the prairie style, the increased cost of stucco drove the decision to use siding instead. The stained beams, columns, and window headers give the home a more hand-crafted look. The oversized, wood soffits give the home the signature feel of prairie style. The heavy stone base grounds the structure, making it feel as if it is one with the landscape, a signature detail that Wright considered fundamental to the style.
