The design of the Flora Residence began with a single inspiration photo of a home that the client really liked, and a long conversation about the kind of home that they really wanted. The photo was instrumental in focusing the design direction towards a Contemporary Modern Prairie Style home.
The Prairie style of Architecture was developed in the early 1900’s and was popularized by Frank Lloyd Wright. The style is focused on a more horizontal, linear approach and incorporates details such as flat or low sloped roofs, rows of windows, and a roof with large overhangs. The long, horizontal design of the prairie style is meant to imitate the long, low landscape of the prairies of the Midwest.
Though brick or stucco is most often associated with the style, the increased cost of those materials drove the decision to use siding instead.
